School ethos on PE and school sport

At The Long Eaton School the PE department’s vision is for all students to have access to a varied PE curriculum which promotes achievement, success and enjoyment and allows them to maintain a balanced, healthy and active lifestyle.  In order to help achieve this, all our students have the opportunity to take part in PE and School Sport outside of the PE curriculum either as a performer, leader or official and are rewarded for this commitment.

School sport achievements

  • DCFC in regional girls football competition finishing runners up overall.
  • U19 Girls elite trampolinist into the national finals in March.
  • KS3 girls Badminton representing Erewash to go to county competition.
  • Mountain bike bid

  • Year 7 & 8 participate in 2hrs per week.
  • Year 9, 10 & 11 participate in 3 hours per 2 weeks (more if do GCSE PE ).
  • Young Leaders Award which is run as an after school club by Mr P Raynor targeting year 7 & 8 students.
  • Sports leaders level 1 which is aimed at year 9 but also those students who missed the opportunity in year 9 who may wish to take it up in year 10. This is also run as an after school club for an hour every week throughout the year.
  • Sports leaders level 2 which is aimed at 6th form however some more able leaders may wish to uptake this in year 10-11. The 6th form students participate in this as part of enrichment.

Sports Ambassadors/council meet and help run lunchtime activities and organise their own clubs.

No. of sports clubs

We offer a variety of clubs for the whole school which run either after school or during lunch times. These clubs are also run by some staff that are not in the PE department but have coaching qualifications or play that sport to a high level. They range from the following; Archery, Dodgeball, Football boys & girls, Netball, Rugby, Badminton, Table Tennis, Mountain Biking, Trampolining and a boys specific trampolining session. The sports ambassadors also run a Boccia club for a small group of students which has been going on for a number of months now.

Same as Gold with these additions:

  • Baseline Assessment – linked to impact of PE premium funding for Ofsted
  • 1 Whole school INSET
  • A further 4 weeks of team teaching support in a PE area of your choice
  • 2 x intra (within school) competitions, with a potential of it being linked to the Partnership competitions events
  • Access to a Change 4 Life bag of equipment and support to start a club for targeted pupils
  • Lunchtime support – mini leaders, playground challenges, developing your playground
